What is a Charter School?
A California charter school is a publicly funded independent school that operates under a "charter" or contract with a sponsoring authority, such as a local school district, county office of education, or the state's Board of Education. Charter schools in California are subject to state laws and regulations but have more flexibility in their operations compared to traditional public schools.
